Model S

A buyer’s map of Model S generations

From nose-cone cars and free Supercharging to Raven, Palladium and Plaid.

2012—202610 min

The Model S name covers fundamentally different cars. Early rear-wheel-drive versions, Dual Motor cars, Raven suspension updates and the 2021 refresh each bring distinct hardware and ownership considerations.

A proper inspection should include battery data, isolation and coolant alerts, drive-unit noise, air-suspension operation, MCU generation, charging history and accident repair quality.

The best purchase is rarely the newest or fastest on paper. It is the car whose history, configuration and intended use align—and whose hidden risk has been measured before money changes hands.
